Francis Kirk Nominated in Emerging Export Category of Business Awards

n the latest of a series of award nominations Denton-based Francis Kirk Group is again competing for top honours with companies across the region.

The leading fastening and engineering business is a finalist in the Emerging Exporter category of the North West International Trade Awards 2017, which are being held the Lowry Hotel this week.

It’s the seventh year of the awards scheme which recognises business success on the world stage and is part of a wider push to increase UK exports.

The shortlisted companies are all pioneers in field, driving international reputation in many markets.

Francis Kirk Group won its nomination for phenomenal international growth in the last two years, around its world-leading, self-locking nut range called Philidas.

Philidas is widely regarded as ‘international best in class’ and is used in safety critical areas by a variety of industries, from automotive to rail, with end users including Renault, Citroen, Toyota, London Underground, Bombardier and JCB among others.

This high-performing British product has been fundamental in opening up overseas markets – especially in the Middle East – and putting Francis Kirk Group on track to almost double its annual turnover this year to £7m in less than 12 months.

The company – which celebrates 150 years in business in 2018 – now trades via partners in Portugal, Spain, Germany, Denmark, France, Sweden, Singapore, Iran, India, UAE, Japan and the US.

Forecasts around business growth in UAE and Iran in particular could see the company growing to £30-35million in the next three years.

Managing Director Tom Kirk, who is the fifth generation to lead the firm, said of the nomination: “It is great for everyone involved in the company to be recognised for all their hard work and we will be there celebrating regardless of the outcome. We have ambitious plans for our future, but will be taking a moment to mark the journey to date and our shortlisting alongside some impressive companies.”

Other contenders for Emerging Exporter 2017 include gym management software company Membr, Sky Medical Technology, CLD Fencing Systems, Airpure and Packaging Automation.

The other seven awards categories are:

International Company of the Year (up to 10m turnover)

International Company of the Year (10m to 25m turnover)

International Company of the Year (25m to 50m turnover)

International Company of the Year (50m+ turnover)
